When Nature Calls...

Hi, it's Lauren again!

We've been driving through Colorado and are heading on our way to Kansas!

We sure have had our fair share of close calls, tire trouble, and quick decision making, but the worst of the climbing is over! We crested the Continental Divide at around 2 am and the guys enjoyed a nice quick McDonalds and long ride down.

Scott coming down a nice decline.
Dr. Doug and Dr. Dave doing a transition.
Going through the twisty turns of the Rocky Mountains and through Colorado provides experiences like I've never had in California (and I'm not talking about being car sick from Dan's driving!)

Every five minutes someone whispers under their breath, "Wow... beautiful," or lets out a small gasp of awe at the evidence of God's artistry around us. Brandon Duggan is ready to sell all and buy a piece of property with "Lake Duggan." Tony Coulson on the other hand is thinking Bambi looks pretty tasty, evidently corn nuts just aren't doing it for him for some reason...

We've seen deer in neighborhoods, leaping over fences, majestic elk staring us and begging for a photo op.

Evidently Craig even had a bear sighting! While costing downhill this morning I guess he glanced over and spotted Smokey staring back at him. I think his tires were burning he pedaled so fast outta there!

I'm so thankful for the views and trees, once we hit Kansas the views aren't going to be so amazing... plains for days! Alright I have to go and convince Tony and Randy that stopping for venison is NOT in the days agenda! Thanks for all your love, prayers and support!

PR (post-race): As it turns out, for Dr. Doug and me and a few others, Kansas left an indelible memory of the magnificence of Creation: we (Randy, Tony and I) had the "graveyard shift." As we drove across the plains, due eastbound on a perfectly straight highway, under a 1 a.m. sky, I glanced out the window and saw the stars . . . like I had never seen them before! I swear there were more stars than sky! Then, at about 2 a.m., a huge blood-red half moon rose directly ahead of us, as if it sprang from the highway. Wow.
